BREAKING NEWS — Dave Garretson Is A Tax Cheat!
Newly unearthed documents reveal that Democrat 134th Assembly District candidate David Garretson, who is challenging incumbent Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece), is a chronic tax cheater who repeatedly failed to pay state taxes and may still owe taxpayers money.
As the owner of Garretson-Carter Advertising, Shelter Goods and First Martin B. Anderson Corp, Garretson failed to pay his state taxes on multiple occasions. In several instances, Garretson was not only president of the companies but also treasurer. Public records show that the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the state Labor Department have issued Garretson seven tax warrants for his businesses totaling $9,441.68. It appears that two tax warrants totaling $4469.10 before interest may still be outstanding.
“The sheer arrogance and lack of responsibility by David Garretson is appalling. You’d think with that kind of terrible tax record Garretson would have named his business ‘Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe,” said Adam D. Kramer, Spokesman for the New York Republican Assembly Campaign Committee (RACC).
“Clearly, Garretson is going negative because he’s a serial tax cheater who is running from a losing campaign,” said Kramer. “It’s no wonder Garretson has campaigned on bailing out those affected by mortgage foreclosures with our tax dollars — he’s hoping we’ll also bail out his outstanding tax warrants. It’s this kind of recklessness that’s the reason people’s retirement funds have lost so much value.”
“Meanwhile, the public has a right to know if and when Garretson will pay the $4469.10 he apparently still owes us and has been collecting 7 percent interest every year since he first owed it 1993,” said Kramer.
“Garretson has time and again been a deadbeat when it comes to paying his taxes. And now the same guy who thought he was above the law by cheating on his taxes time after time wants to be a lawmaker - that’s scary,” said Kramer.
